Household & kitchen

Housewares from China: the biggest product category — and the one with the most food-contact traps

Kitchen gadgets, pots and pans, storage containers, drinking bottles, organizers: household is the highest-revenue import segment in German online retail. We source from vetted manufacturers — with migration testing, LFGB evidence and fitness-for-use checks before every shipment.

Where housewares imports fail

The category looks harmless — in reality food contact is one of the most tightly monitored fields of EU market surveillance.

Migration above the limit

Melamine, formaldehyde, primary aromatic amines from nylon utensils: classic RASFF alerts. We test to EU 10/2011 and LFGB in accredited labs — before shipment, per batch.

Prohibited materials

Bamboo-melamine tableware can no longer be legally sold in the EU — yet it is still being offered. We know the prohibition list and keep such goods out of your range.

Coating & everyday durability

Non-stick that peels after 20 dishwasher cycles, “stainless” that rusts: we specify material grades (e.g. 18/10), verify PFOA-free coatings and run dishwasher and abrasion tests on samples.

What we handle for housewares sellers

Lab testing per material & batch

Migration tests (LFGB / EU 10/2011), sensory testing, heavy-metal screening on ceramic glazes — documented for market surveillance and marketplaces.

Private label kitchen lines

From single product to a range with consistent design, colours and packaging — housewares are the classic private label category.

FBA-ready to the Amazon warehouse

Set packaging, breakage protection, FNSKU labels: housewares sets arrive ready to ship — with drop tests of the packaging beforehand.

Samples in real-life testing

You cook with, wash and use the samples yourself before ordering — we bundle candidates from several manufacturers in one shipment.

Common questions about housewares from China

What is the difference between LFGB and EU Regulation 1935/2004?

EU framework Regulation 1935/2004 applies EU-wide; the German LFGB implements it and the BfR recommendations partly set stricter benchmarks (e.g. sensory testing). In German retail, “LFGB-tested” is the de facto expectation — so we test to both and supply the reports.

Which materials carry the highest risk?

Black nylon (primary aromatic amines), melamine under heat, bamboo-plastic composites (not permitted in the EU), ceramic glazes (lead/cadmium) and cheap non-stick coatings. For each of these we have standard test plans — or recommend the uncritical alternative.

Is the category worthwhile despite Amazon competition?

Generic kitchen gadgets: hardly. Differentiated sets, better materials (18/10 instead of 18/0, borosilicate instead of soda-lime glass) and tested quality with a German compliance package: yes — that is exactly where low-cost sellers fail, and where your margin lives.
