China sourcing brief: these details get you a reliable quote faster
The clearer the brief, the faster a realistic price can be found. This template shows which details Chinese manufacturers really need and which information prevents later quality issues.

Minimum details for a good first quote
A photo is enough for a rough direction, but not for a reliable price. Manufacturers calculate by material, size, process steps, packaging, quantity, tolerances and deadline. The less is clear, the larger the risk buffer in the price.
- Product photo, link or drawing with dimensions
- Target volume: test quantity, first order and annual demand
- Target price or current purchase price as orientation
- Material, colour, finish, logo and packaging
- Required certificates, target country and sales channel
- Desired deadline and delivery address
What a good brief also clarifies
The best briefs describe not only the product but also later use. Is it used outdoors? Does it touch food, skin, children or electricity? Will it sell on Amazon, Otto or retail? These details decide the testing plan, packaging and documents.
Why target price helps honestly
A target price is not an invitation to charge exactly that number. It helps find the right supplier class: standard goods, better workmanship, brand quality or OEM development. Without it you often compare factories that do not offer the same quality.
Common project-brief questions
Can I inquire without a finished drawing?
Yes. A photo, reference link or sample is enough for a first assessment. For custom production we later need dimensions, tolerances or a sample.
Should I share my current purchase price?
If you want a real landed-cost comparison, yes. Then we can check whether China makes sense after freight, duty and inspection.
How confidential are product ideas?
We treat inquiries confidentially. For sensitive projects we can prepare an NDA before sharing details.
